, we zijn afgelopen zomer in Marokko geweest ,
De motoren hebben we op de trailer meegenomen naar Algeciras en vanuit die plaats zijn we met de boot Marokko ingevaren.
Timing van seizoen kon iets beter maar we waren in Januari al naar Patagonie geweest zodat we het dit keer niet voor het uitkiezen hadden,

On El Hedim square two Moroccan ladies offered us a piece of fresh baked beigenet; so nice! Here we enjoyed the famous moroccan tea with a view on the beautiful Bab Mansour.

The souq was crowded and messy in a nice sort of way; everywhere men were busy with the delicate work of sewing the beautiful jabalas for women or spinning colorful thread, just next to the camel butcher or the olive shop!

We enjoyed the delicious set dinner in restaurant Dar Jamai, where they even got wine (no beer though)!

Here we rode Cirque du Jaafar. Hardly any signs to lead us, but you meet enough shepherds and running children (wherever do they come from in this middle of nowhere???) to ask directions.

The winding route over the Tizi’n Tichka was nice too. My tyre was getting flat again, so we decided to change it at the top of the pass, were it should be cooler. Just when Ray finished stripping the wheel, it began to pour. Luckily we could shelter in a tiny souvenir shop and change the tyre there.

Marrakech is of course hectic (and hot), I stopped at a bus station and asked a man on a moped if he could show me the way to a Ryad. What followed was some sort of a wild chase between a  KTM / DRZ against a moped. I think its fair to say that we lost and mopeds rule in Marrakesh

We stayed in Ryad El Saqaya, which really had character and atmosphere :

Tja het lijkt alweer zo lang geleden , kan ook niet geloven dat het er zo warm was.

Krijg er ook wel weer het vakantiegevoel bij :wink:

De mensen maken het toch altijd weer byzonder. Tis ook gewoon weer een mooi land om te bezoeken. En er is voor iedereen wat wils.
Asfalt ( perfect) en piste ( veel en moeilijk als je het wilt!)

Ziet er idd heel erg indrukwekkend uit.
Lijkt me echt top om zo'n reis te maken, op de motor een totaal andere wereld te verkennen :thumbsup:

Deze nieuwe KTM, wat is hier aan veranderd/verbeterd tov je vorige?
Je schreef in je andere draadje dat deze betrouwbaarder is; wat was het probleem of d eproblemen bij de vorige?

Vraag dit omdat ik toch af en toe met een schijn oog verlekkerd naar de oranje brigade zit te kijken... en de xtz waarschijnlijk geen eeuwig leven heeft, mocht ie ooit helemaal klaar zijn...

Hi Geert,
de `oude `Katoom is van 1998 . Ik ben niet zo technisch dus ik durf met zo`n `oude `fiets niet naar Mongolië.

De 620 heeft me nog nooit laten staan ( 1 keer wel tank leeg :D  haha)

De nieuwe 640 is gewoon nieuw. Als ik ze zo naast elkaar zet dan is alleen de upsd een verschil.De dubbele schijf is zelfs een nadeel omdat het zwaarder instuurt ( meer gyroscopisch effect)

En de 620 trilt nog meer, gelukkig trilt de 640 ook behoorlijk maar dat hoort bij deze fietsen: karakter. Echt ik zou geen andere motor weten die al deze eigenschappen en goodies( WP, UPSD , imo , 28 ltr tank, Magura stuur)standaard heeft.


Het was ook mijn eerste KTM en ik wilde eigenlijk zien of het merk me beviel,ik heb er inmiddels al heel veel leuke dingen mee gedaan en het zijn heerlijke motoren waar ook nog eens erg veel voor te koop is op Ebay!

Ze hebben aandacht nodig : alles trilt los!! Dus altijd schoonmaken en nakijken wat je verloren bent na iedere rit.

Oud en nieuw:

ps de parelmoerlak is wel erg fout voor een off road maar goed dat is dan ook het enige minpuntje( het moet van dat goedkope door en door gekleurde emmerplastik zijn)

Ziet er erg goed uit die 640, maar dat vond ik van de 620 ook al...
Lostrillende onderdelen is inderdaad karakter, it's no error, it's a feature,
bij een stampende 1-cylinder.

Hoe rijdt het op langere afstanden kwa zithouding, zadel, pedaalafstand ect?
Wat voor bagageoplossing heb je voor langere vakatietrips? (Alu)Koffers of zijtassen, tanktas? Of gaat de hele boel op Wilma's fiets en rag jij lekker vooruit voor de foto's?  :wink:

Tja , laten we wel wezen een GS zal het nooit worden: bite the bullet

Het is gewoon goed te doen ,zeker met het nieuwe zadel( DRZ is much worse)

Bagage: minder is meer...........nadat in Tanzania mijn rugzak niet is aangekomen heb ik geleerd om 1 broek en 1 korte broek mee te nemen.
3 shirts en de kampeerspullen.
Goed kleden doe je maar thuis nietwaar?
In Tanzania heb ik 2 weken met de kleding rondgelopen die de anderen voor de Afrikanen hadden bedoeld ( ouwe lompen dus haha)

Ortlieb ( kleding handoek etc)+ roltas voor de tent ed , benzine( voor DRZ) & water

Ik heb mijn Zega`s verkocht, op een GS staan ze prima maar op een KTM horen softbags. Kan je perfect off road mee zonder dat er iets afbreekt/trilt. Het zega rek zal het niet lang uithouden op een Katoom.

Jem al El Fna square is really marvelous. The screaming orange juice sellers (so much competition, they really have to fight for their customers), all those eat stalls specialized in just one thing: soup or snails or brochettes (lots of smoke around here!) or vegetables or cake or coffee .........

I find it hard to believe that I am actualy walking here, it gives me the feelling that I saw it first at Disneyworld and this all isn`t real. But it is and we sit for hours on a terrace, later we move over to a restaurant still watching the square.It`s a great evening and with our beer and tea we are a just 2 travellers enjoying this wonderfull arabic scene.

De xtz heeft ook geen GS-zetel, maar best vol te houden,vandaar mijn vraag hoe de KTM is; enig eervaring die ik ooit eerder heb gezien was de 400 die Margrieta jaren terug had, en waar ze iedere 100 zo'n beetje fysio e.d. nodig had.

Qua kleding heb ik meest niet veel meer bij me, buiten extra warme spullen, daar ik meest in wat koudere streken kom... Zijn meest de duo,
visuitrusting, boeken ect die de ruimte vullen...
De softbags, hoe bevestig je die dat ze er niet aframmelen?
Ben voor de xtz ook nog op zoek naar minder breeds en zwaars dan alukoffers, eventueel om aan een H&B rekje te hangen dat ik laatst op de kop heb getikt.

De Ortliebzadeltas zit vol riemen en gespen. Je vindt altijd wel een frame oid om eea vast te maken.

KTM verhalen worden wel een beetje aangedikt , het is gewoon goed te doen zeker op de modellen vanaf 2002.
Mijn zadel ( 640) is zeker zo goed>zacht < als van de BMW Adv!
Tenzij je het rallyezadel neemt : bekleed hout is er niks bij, wel een goed gevoel met de motor. Maar net wat je wilt.
Dus alle verhalen met een korreltje zout nemen.
Behalve de trillingen want die zijn er, maar ja het is dan ook een echte mannenmotor nietwaar  :wink:

Achterlichtjes, ik heb er wel 20 vervangen allemaal kapot getrilt. LED lampje nemen meneer: alle ledjes uit het metaal getrilt!
Schakelpook, rempedaal, alle moertjes goed vastzetten en evt locktite,
achtertandwielbout losgetrilt van een vriend van me, blokerend achterwiel als gevolg.
Kortom : het trilt.

anders moet je een DRZ nemen. Niks mis mee , zelfs een zeer goede keuze,maar a whole different animal.

De road to Tizi `n Test had good tarmac, but after the top it changed rapidly to a very poor condition. We almost hit a pile of shingles that was dropped just after a bend!

We wanted to get rid of the heat, so we decided to skip the Anti Atlas and go for the coast. Essaouira was nice and cool. And a lovely spot, that seems hardly touched by tourism (even there are quite a lot around here).

Near Rabat we turned our back to the coast and the temperature was rising immediately. It seemed even hotter than Merzouga! The water in the bidons got so hot that you almost burned your hands trying to wash them.
 In Chefchaouen in the Rif mountains it felt pleasant again. According to the  camping manager  it had been 'only' 41 C today. I can hardly imagine the temperature in the lower parts we rode today.....   Chefchaouen is very picturesque with its blue and white painted walls and a cozy Place Mohamed with lots of terraces and chatting old men.

Wat voor digi camara gebruik jij?
Het valt mij op dat de foto's bij zeer diverse belichtingen vrijwel altijd goed zijn, dat lukt bij veel digicam's niet.
